For 2OO7, the slopes are taking on a new look:
Downhill mountain biking is intended to be a discipline that can be practised by everyone. The accent is placed on the development of the most accessible slopes for families and novices. On the Pied-Moutet sector, new starter and practising slopes (green and blue runs) are being laid out, allowing the general public to explore and practice downhill mountain biking. This sector will be primarily focussing on newcomers to mountain biking. From now on, downhill mountain biking will no longer be just for the experts. Unlike in winter, the most difficult runs are at the high altitudes and those for beginners are situated around the resort.
Improving existing itineraries: repair, maintenance and recreational measures are the point of focus. This is a huge project, carried out by 6 specialists. 2007 will see a terrific site with high-quality and recreational trails. The mountain bike runs are groomed daily and are now laid out in a more recreational and less elitist manner. The annual budget for maintenance and improvements to the downhill mountain biking site: €110,000.
Improved signposting with arrows and ground markings to make it as straightforward as possible for all the different interests spread around the mountainside to easily find their way around (mountain bikers, hikers, horse-riders etc).
Layout of a bike handling park, with bridges, blocks and seesaws. There is lots of technical advice for riders to enable them to improve in complete safety.
A new GIANT/TEAM AYTON/LES 2 ALPES alliance has started. The “AYTON GIANT LES 2 ALPES” team has a test centre at Les 2 Alpes, with 3-day courses for novices accompanied by an MCF (French cycle monitor) monitor and members of the team . The team also lends new ideas and proposals concerning the layout of the downhill mountain bike runs.
Employment of a mountain biking specialist at Les 2 Alpes Office of Tourism, who will complement Les 2 Alpes Loisirs technical ski lift team. This role will concern the MTB events and activities and the personalised reception of mountain bikers at the resort.
Les grandes Alpes, a shared downhill mountain bike domain, LES 2 ALPES / ALPE D’HUEZ - 360 kilometres of runs.
