FROM THE FERRAND VALLEY TO THE EAU D’OLLE VALLEY

More downhill than uphill today! The ‘Chemin des Combes’ is a lovely ride through the forest.

DESCRIPTION

From Besse, ride on to Clavans-le-Bas. 200m afterwards, take the path off to the right, signposted ‘Le Puy-le-Freney par le Follet’, which will take you to Auris Station via a sunny balcony path, heavy with the scent of lavender. Climb up via the ‘Signal de l’Homme’, follow Maronne and then the GR 54 which comes out at the Sarenne gorges (route no. 6). Ride on to Huez and then Villard-Reculas on the small road. At Villard-Reculas, go up towards the shepherd’s hut, the ‘bergerie’, and then take the path into the forest above pylon no. 3 of the Le Villarais chairlift (route no.14). Follow ‘Chemin des Combes par le Bessay’. From the hamlet of Le Bessay, 500m higher, take the ‘Chemin de la Rompure’, following signs for ‘Enversin-d’Oz’. From Enversin, ride back to Vaujany along the road.

SHOPPING FOR PROVISIONS

Auris-en-Oisans has a small supermarket that is open during the summer. Bread can be bought at Huez and there is a grocer’s and cheese-shop in Villard-Reculas. There are many shops in Vaujany.

REFRESHMENTS EN ROUTE

There are restaurants in Auris-en-Oisans, one in Huez, four in Villard-Reculas and eight in Vaujany. Call the tourist offices for a list.

ACCOMODATION

In Vaujany, you can chose from a hut, five hotels, B&Bs and a gite. Contact the tourist office for opening dates and contact information.
