There are two possible departure points for this ride, either Les Deux-Alpes or Venosc. Take the cable car up to the glacier. For more information, call 04 76 79 22 00.
When the cable cars are not running, you can also cycle up to the start of the ride.
This is a varied route, passing from glacial terrain to lower altitude forest, with a continuous succession of banked switchbacks, tables and moguls. Seen from above, this looks somewhat daunting, but it is in fact an ideal descent for beginners. An all-round success!
Take the Jandri express cable car up to an altitude of 3200m from Les Deux-Alpes and roughly follow the line of the cable car on the forest track. 400m further on, where there is a break in the slope, enter the canyon. From here, there is a superb view over the Muzelle and its glacier. Ride to the small Serre-Palas lake, which you leave to your left to ride the two or three minutes up to the col. Drop down 200m, heading towards the cairns to where there is a break in the slope (an escape route on a forest track). The terrain is shale, but pleasant to bike on. In the line of the Jandri, take a narrow single-track path, numbered 242, which after a few bends, joins up with the forest track. Cross the small mountain stream. You are now at an altitude of 2 600m, the mid-way point of the Jandri express.
Following the signs, the track leads to the Lac du Plan and the Bellecombe chairlift departure point. Immediately take the path that goes under the cable car, climbing up to the arrival point of the Diable cable car (not more than 100m higher, we promise!).
The best part of the ride starts here. The track goes through the large avalanche shelters that protect Les Deux-Alpes. With its banked switchbacks, this fast and fun path is a real pleasure to ride.
From Les Perrons car park onwards, the track is 100% downhill, with some quite hairy steep slopes and banked switchbacks!
Despite its somewhat spectacular appearance, this descent is actually accessible to all MTB enthusiasts and will doubtlessly delight the best riders. The finish point is at the Venosc cable car station that leads back up to Les Deux Alpes.
