This route starts at Alpe-d’Huez and finishes at Allemont. In the summer, the shuttle bus from Allemont to Oz-en-Oisans, followed by the Poutran cable car, will take you back to your departure point. For more information, contact the Allemont tourist office on 04 76 80 71 60. If you decide on this route off-season, you will need to leave one car in Allemont and then drive to the 21km to Alpe-d’Huez, via Villard-Reculas and Huez (D 44b, followed by the D211) in a second vehicle.
This a varied route through pasture and woodland, ideal for medium-level riders who wish to take pleasure from these fun, never too difficult, paths. The length of the route does, however, call for a good level of fitness.
The route starts at the Alpe-d’Huez SATA car park (at the ski-run roundabout) at an altitude of 1860m. Take the path that leads off from the bike cleaning ramps (as required for FFC approval).
This leads on to the wonderful panoramic balcony path, at the end of which you go down La Combe du Bras through the forest. Ride along the road to Villard-Reculas. Go past the tourist office and then follow signs for "La Bergerie". After reaching a small lake (the Bassin du Langaret at 1626 m), go off to the north towards the forest, passing under the Villard-Reculas cable car just above the 3rd pylon. The path enters the wood, becomes fast and pleasant, bordered by epilobium and redcurrant bushes.
Once at the signposted Sardonne – Chemin des Combes crossroads, follow the ‘Les Combes - Le Bessay’ path through a small beech wood. You can catch glimpses of the Eau d’Olle valley, dominated by the sharp Belledonne peaks.
At Pré Raynaud, turn left to Le Bessay. After crossing the picturesque ‘Pont du Gay’ bridge, go through Le Faubourg, with its old mountain barns. From Le Bessay, ride up the road for about 500m to the hairpin bend (1209m) and take the ‘Chemin de la Rompure’ towards Enversin-d’Oz.
Follow this path to the Vaujany road, taking care over the electric gates. Turn left onto the road, ride past the gite ‘Chez Passoud’, carry on for another 100m and turn off onto a narrow, signposted path to La Pourchery. At the end of the valley, cross a small footbridge. The path then goes up the mountainside – on your left, you can see the falls of shale, known as the ‘Abîme du Follet’. In Pourchery, after the chalet called "Masheya", take the path to Verney. Carry on along the road to Pont Ratier and take the GR path back to Allemont.
