Le Boulangeard N°13

Freeride

Alpe d’Huez > Oz Station > Allemont

Info-Freeride-13-uk 186-13-boulangeard

ORGANISATION

Take the first part of the Grandes Rousses cable car from Alpe d’Huez or Oz en Oisans. After the ride, you can take the free shuttle bus from Allemont back to Oz Station (the ski resort). For more information, call 04 76 80 78 01.

IN BRIEF

This varied ride features a fine series of paths in both pasture land and forest, together with some great technical switchbacks.

DESCRIPTION

Once out of the cable car, take the Chemin des Alpages towards the Col de Poutran and then continuer along the path to the Signal de l’Homme tower to reach the departure point for the Sardonne forest. There is a fine descent to Pré Raynaud, just above the resort of Oz en Oisans. A variant involves riding down the Megavalanche qualification track: after the last avalanche shelter, turn right. The first – highly technical – bends are followed by a lovely descent along the side of the mountain. The path then enters into a wood above the resort of Oz, where you turn left, following signs for Pré Raynaud.

Follow the path to the left towards Sardonne via Les Blaches – Le Boulangeard. After passing some ruins, you get to a crossroads, where you take a left and, after 40m, turn off to the right onto a small track that dips down into the forest in a series of switchbacks towards Le Boulangeard. This path comes out onto the road, next to the “Le Boulangeard” sign, where you turn left. Once on the road to Villard-Reculas, go through the hamlet of La Beurrière and, 300m further on, turn right onto a path marked ‘Allemont 0h 15’. Cross over the iron footbridge, and turn right back for the swimming pool (to catch the shuttle bus).
