Cross country

Leave your car in one of the free car parks in Bourg-d’Oisans – the ride will bring you back to the same place.
This is a fast ride that will enable you to discover the hidden side of the Bourg-d’Oisans plain and the banks of the Vénéon River, unimaginable from the road. Did you know that water from the Rive is so pure that there are plans to bottle it and that the huge river bed of the Vénéon has a Siberian feel to it? All mountain-bikers will enjoy this route.
In Bourg-d’Oisans, go past the chemists towards Le Vert and follow the GR 50-54 trail. Follow this pleasant path for 3.5km to the source of the Rive. Carry on to a crossroads known as the Croix du Plan, and go straight over, following signs for ‘Cascade de la Pisse – les Gauchoirs’. Take the trail off the main path to go down to the Pisse waterfall.
Cross the narrow footbridge and turn left up to a wider track. Carry on towards Venosc (towards a lone peak called the Aiguille de Venosc).
Go to Les Gauchoirs. Turn left and go into the woodland. A lovely turquoise-water canyon runs below the path.
Cross the road and take the path opposite, riding along the right-hand bank of the Vénéon. Go past the leisure area to Bourg-d’Arud. Cross the Vénéon via the large suspension bridge to reach the hamlet of Alleau. On the other side of the village, follow the GR54 and go past Venosc Adventure Park.
Take a path to the left to the Champ de l’Aiguille, going into woodland where you may have some carrying sections.
The path widens out after 3 km, towards Les Ougiers. Go down to Les Escalons, following the GR path to Les Gauchoirs – Bourg-d’Oisans. Stay on the path to La Croix du Plan. At this crossroads, turn right towards ‘La Digue’, the dyke which will take you to Bourg-d’Oisans.
The ‘Cascade de la Pisse’ waterfall.
