This view of La Meije is quite simply stunning! The glaciers seem to be so near that you might think you can almost touch them.
This ascent to the heart of the high Romanche will be an unforgettable memory!
From Bourg-d’Oisans follow the RN91 towards Briançon. After 5 km turn left into the gorges of the Infernet. Cycle past the Chambon barrage and carry on until you reach La Grave.
Be careful when cycling through the tunnel.
When coming out of the ’Serre du Coin’ tunnel, above La Grave, follow the road that forks off to the right (D33). Follow the road to the hamlets of Hyères and Ventélon. From Ventélon you can go to the village of Chazelet. You can take the same road on your way back.
La Grave
The origin of this name goes back to Gaulish and is believed to come from the word "gravière" to describe the shingle banks deposited by the wild river Romanche.
Today La Grave is a very popular place for mountain climbing and was not accessible by road until the middle of the 19th century.
