La montée des Deux Alpes par Bons N°27

Climbing

Bourg-d’Oisans > Bons

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

If you take the D220 you will be able to avoid most of the main road. It overlooks the majestic gorges of the Infernet and from here you will have a wonderful view on the hamlets of Auris-en-Oisans (La Balme, Les Cours etc.) as well as the ski resort of Auris. However, the climb is fairly strenuous.

ITINARY

From Bourg-d’Oisans take the RN91 towards Briançon. After 5 km, turn left into the gorges of the Infernet and go through the tunnel of the Rampe des Commères. Then turn off the RN91 to the right and follow the D220 which climbs rather steeply through the forest.

This route which follows an itinerary offering the most spectacular views catches up with the road to Les Deux-Alpes, which is 7 km from there.

CULTURAL INFORMATION

La Balme Shaft
The itinerary leads through the tunnel of the Rampe des Commères, a passage that the locals used to walk in the 19th century and on which many a gossipy story would be told by those travellers.
When coming out of the tunnel, you will see a footpath leading down to an old bridge over the Romanche which then climbs as a narrow winding path, supported by dry stone walls, cut straight through the rocks, up to the little hamlets of Auris or La Balme.

This winding path was the only access to the hamlets of Auris-en-Oisans for centuries. From the road to Bons you will have a most spectacular view over this path.
