This itinerary through the Vénéon valley, which is emblematic of Oisans, will lead you up to a magnificent viewpoint over the Tête des Fétoules. You may wish to stop off and take a break by the stream and admire the waterfalls of Lanchâtra.
From Bourg-d’Oisans follow the RN91 towards Briançon as far as Clapier-d’Auris (5 km) and then cycle through the Vénéon valley towards Venosc-Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans - La Bérarde on the D530. After Bourg-d’Arud, a road with an 11% incline will lead you to the ’Plan du Lac’ (small EDF barrage on the river Vénéon).
That little bit further
Are you in good shape? Then you can climb up the winding road to
Saint-Christophe or continue on itinerary no. 24 up to La Bérarde. You can also visit the artists’ village of Venosc and enjoy a lovely stroll through its cobbled streets!
Some delicious local food for cyclists: Crozets
Here is a recipe from Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans. This is a typical dish from the mountains of the Dauphiné. It is made of flour, potatoes and eggs. With these basic ingredients people once had to feed their families virtually all the year round. Crozets were made every Friday, the fasting day ’par excellence’.
Preparation and cooking: approximately 1 h 30 min. (serves 4)
Mash 5 boiled potatoes, mix them with 2 eggs and some salt. Gradually add the flour until you get a consistent dough. Make long "sausages" and cut them into small dice: "crozets". Put these crozets into a large quantity of boiling salt water until they come to the surface; then drain them. In a gratin dish alternate one layer of crozets and one layer of melted butter. You can improve this basic traditional recipe by adding cream or Gruyère cheese. Place in the oven for several minutes and serve hot.
