La boucle du Mollard N°15

Climbing

Bourg-d’Oisans >Allemont > Le Mollard

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This rather short but strenuous itinerary round the foothills of the Belledonne mountains leads through some light undergrowth overlooking Lake Verney deep beneath. The view of the Grandes Rousses mountains is captivating!

ITINARY

From Bourg-d’Oisans follow the RN91 to Allemont. Then follow the D526 in the direction of Pont-Ratier - Le Rivier-d’Allemont. Turn left at the second crossroads (at the old transformer station) and follow the small winding road to Le Mollard (meaning ’colline’ (hill) in French patois) which will take you back to the secondary road.

Go back down and turn right at the second junction of Le Villaret - Allemont-le-Vieux to follow the D43. Then you can follow the D526 and later on the RN91 to go back to Bourg-d’Oisans.

CULTURAL INFORMATIONS

Some delicious local food for cyclists! The ’Farcis De L’oisans’
An authentic local dish which is served in mountain cabins or restaurants. It is usually served together with salted pork and a green salad also complements it very nicely. This authentic recipe of l’Oisans was especially popular towards the end of the winter when the stocks of potatoes in people’s cellars were gradually going down.

Preparation and cooking: 2 hours (serves 4 to 6 people)
Ingredients: 800 g to 1 kg of stale bread / 1 kg of salted pork breast / 1 sausage for cooking (600 to 800 g) / 50 g of butter / 100 g of onions / 500 g of leeks / 100 g of flour / 1 kg of potatoes / salt / pepper.

Boil the salted pork and sausage separately. Slice the onions and white parts of the leeks thinly and fry them gently in the butter. Then add approx. 2 litres of the juice from the meat. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer gently for 30 minutes. Pour this mix on the stale bread which you will have diced and leave it to soak. Form balls about the size of an egg and flour them. Then place these balls carefully in the remainder of the juice of the pork or the sausage. Simmer gently for about 10 min. Boil the potatoes as they are separately. Serve 2 to 3 balls per person with a piece of salted pork, some sausage cut in round slices and a few potatoes.
