Climbing
This big round trip is popular among local cyclists. These deep and narrow mountain valleys have highly fertile soil which has been cultivated ever since the Middle Ages. You will reach the plateau of Matheysin from where you will be climbing up to La Morte on a nice and quiet, pleasant road. However, be careful when coming down from Séchilienne!
From Bourg-d’Oisans follow the RN91 towards Grenoble. After the second kilometre turn left and follow the D526 towards Valbonnais - La Mure - Col d’Ornon.
From the pass, go down to Valbonnais and from Valbonnais, turn right and follow the D26 towards La Mure. In Sievoz, turn right and cycle on the D114a towards La Morte (ski resort of l’Alpe du Grand Serre).
Then go to Séchilienne and simply follow the RN91 until you come back to Bourg-d’Oisans.
THE ECRINS NATIONAL PARK
This itinerary, from Chantelouve to Entraigues, leads past the borders of the ’Parc National des Ecrins’. The vast area of this National Park, which was opened in 1973, is the largest and highest in France. It has more than 8 million visitors each year! It has an extraordinary wealth of plant and animal species, including its thousands of chamois, hundreds of ibexes, some forty eagle couples, bearded vultures and ptarmigans.
This Park has been declared the first integral nature reserve in France since 1995 where any human interference is prohibited. This 700-dectare valley to the South of Lauvitel was chosen for this National Park, since it had no longer been used as pastures since 1947.
